April 22nd - 25th, 2024: Earth Day & BUGS!

Hello Firefly Families!

This week we focused on bugs and what we can do to help the Earth for Earth Day. We went on a rhyming hunt around our room to find rhyming words, measured bugs with unifix cubes, went on a bug number hunt around school, completed the emergent reader book "I See Bugs", responded to the journal entry "What can YOU do to help the Earth?" and learned how to sort recycling from the trash. We also went on a trash hunt around the LECC! We read the books Bugs, The Earth Book, 10 Things I Can Do to Help My World, It's Earth Day! and we watched the video "Bugs for Kids". We also had "Abilities Day" in our gym today, where we learned how some people need help to walk/talk/hear/see etc and how we were all born different.

April 15th - 18th, 2024: Food Groups & Healthy Eating!

Hello Firefly Families!

This week we learned all about our six food groups and how to eat healthy. We created the "Firefly Market" in our reading arch, sampled fruits & veggies, wrote a sentence writer story about our favorite foods, played multiple food group games, went on a scavenger hunt to write our "grocery list", and responded to the journal prompt, "What is your favorite food? What food group is it in?". We also started to talk about Earth Day and how we can be SUPER HEROES to our planet! We made upcycled capes with old tee shirts and painted them. We will continue learning about next week! We read the books The Fruit Group, The Vegetable Group, The Grains Group, The Fats, Sweets and Oils Group, The Dairy Group, and The Protein Group and reviewed the letters P, Q, R & S from HWT.

*Our library is closing next Thursday, April 25th! Please make sure all library books are brought back next week. Thanks for your help as we close the library down for the school year.
