April 27th - May 30th, 2026: Caterpillars and Butterflies!

Hello Firefly Families!

This week we learned all about butterflies and their life cycle! I think everyone's favorite part of the week was for sure our new caterpillar pets. :) We responded to the journal prompt, "On ___ the caterpillar ate (#) _____", practiced a "directed drawing" of a caterpillar and watercolored it, learned about the word SYMMETRY and made symmetrical butterflies, learned about metamorphosis and what stages the butterfly goes through in it's life cycle, and played a caterpillar "roll and cover" game with dice. We worked on numbers 1, 2 & 3 in our HWT book and we read the books Butterflies, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Caterpillar to Butterfly and Caterpillar and the Polliwog

"Butterfly Song" (to the tune of "Up on the Housetop")

First comes a butterfly and lays an egg,

Out comes a caterpillar with many legs.

Oh see the caterpillar spin and spin,

A little chrysalis to sleep in.

Oh, oh, oh! Wait and see.

Oh, oh, oh! Wait and see.

Out of the chrysalis, my oh my!

Out comes a pretty butterfly!

April 20th - 23rd, 2026: BUGS & Earth Day!

Hello Firefly Families!

This week we focused on bugs and what we can do to help the Earth. We went on a rhyming hunt around our room to find rhyming words, measured bugs with Unifix cubes, went on a bug number hunt around school and practiced writing the numbers, completed the emergent reader book "I See Bugs", played in a bug sensory bin with "grass" and fake bugs, responded to the journal entry "How can YOU be an Earth Day Superhero?" and learned how to look for the recycling symbol and sort recycling from the trash. We also went on a trash hunt around the LECC to help clean up our Earth, sponge-painted Earths and made Earth Day crowns to celebrate. We read the books Bugs, In the Tall, Tall GrassThe Earth Book, 10 Things I Can Do to Help My World, It's Earth Day! and we watched the video "Bugs for Kids".
