April 6th - 9th, 2026: Planting!

Hello Firefly Families!

This week we learned all about the life cycle of a plant, how a seed grows, the parts of a flower and what plants need to grow. We planted our own grass seeds to watch them sprout and grow, sequenced the plant life cycle, cut out and glued the parts of a plant, responded to the journal prompt, "What's Growing in Your Garden?", and are doing an experiment with soaked beans, a wet papertowel and a baggie taped on the window--will it grow? We reviewed the letters Q, R & S in HWT. We watched videos on the plant life cycle and parts of a plant and we also read the books Grow Flower, Grow!Planting Seeds and We are Growing!. Our favorite song for the week was this one, they had so much fun with it! It really helped them learn the parts of a plant and what it needs to grow.

March 30th - April 2nd, 2026: Birds!

Hello Firefly Families!

This week we had fun learning about birds! We cut out and painted our own birds & made their nests, went on a pinecone hunt to find pinecones to make bird feeders with peanut butter & birdseed, and played a rolling dice game with birds to get them back to their nests. Since it rained on Thursday afternoon, we will put our bird feeders near the garden next Monday and will check on them later next week to see if any birdies eat them! We also made some "bird watchers" from paper towel tubes, and went on a "backyard bird hunt" to see which ones we could find around the building. We read the books Birds for Kids, Grumpy Bird, and Mama Built a Little Nest. We are still reviewing the alphabet and this week we focused on M, N, O & P.
