January 28th & 29th, 2026: Arctic/Antarctic Animals!

Happy Friday, Firefly Families!

Wow--what a crazy start to our week! Hope you all stayed safe and warm in the SNOW. During our short week we learned a little about arctic/antarctic habitats and what animals live in them. We cut out and painted igloos with penguins, responded to the journal prompt, "How does your daddy take care of you?" (we learned about how daddy penguins are the main care-giver of penguin chicks), played a penguin color matching game, used sponges to paint polar bear faces, and played in REAL snow with arctic animals. Our HWT letter of the week was V and we read the books Arctic Animals For KidsThe Emperor's Egg, Penguins (Nat Geo Kids) and we watched a few videos on the arctic/antarctic habitats & animals.

January 20th - 23rd, 2026: Hibernation

Hello Firefly Families!

This week we learned all about hibernation--which animals HIBERNATE, which ones ADAPT to the snow/cold and which animals MIGRATE to a warmer climate. We made a cozy hibernation cave in our reading arch, wrote letters in "snow" trays, responded to the journal prompt, "Where does your bear hibernate?" and sorted which animals hibernate/adapt in the winter. We loved having a cozy jammie day on Thursday to hibernate with our loveys! We read the books Over and Under the Snow, Snuggle Down Deep, Hibernation and When It Starts to Snow. Our HWT letter of the week was N.

Reminders:

*Firefly Valentine/Friendship Party 🩷: Thursday, February 12th @ 11 AM

*NO SCHOOL: Friday, February 13th for PD Day & Monday, February 16th for President's Day!

We are getting ready to plan Passport Day at LECC! This fun event will be on Saturday, March 7th, 2026 this year. It is a day to teach and learn about all the great diversity and various cultures LECC has to offer! You can share food, drinks, dances, clothing, photos, and more at a booth for all to experience. Our goal is to provide a fun, interactive experience appropriate for all ages. If you are interested in hosting a table, please fill out the survey here by Thursday, January 29th to share your interest. It is short and should take less than a minute to complete. ALL are welcome to join! If you would like to see examples of previous tables from last year, you can see those here!
