August 31st - September 4th, 2026: We are the Fireflies!

Happy Friday, Firefly Families!

This week we learned all about FIREFLIES! Our Handwriting Without Tears (HWT) letter of the week happened to be F too! We painted frames for our family portraits, cut out fireflies to put in a jar & wrote the number, cut out and created "very lonely fireflies" to match our Eric Carle story, responded to the journal prompt "If you were a firefly where would you fly?" and went on a firefly number hunt around our school. We read the books Fireflies, Ten Flashing Fireflies, The Very Lonely FireflyIt's a Firefly Night and Firefly Home.

Here's the link to a calming Firefly Song we sang and danced to this week!

Reminders:

*NO SCHOOL: Monday, September 7th--Labor Day!

*Our Firefly Kissing Hand book is making it's way around the class in the Show & Tell bag. If your child brings it home, please read it with them and send it back the next day so another family can enjoy. :)

*If you know your Firefly is not a rester, you are welcome to send a few books or a quiet activity for them to do alone on their mat during rest time. This can go back and forth from school or it can stay in their cubby. Thanks!

*Check out our new "Ride & Reflect" (formally known as "Car Talk") for this quarter!

August 24th -28th, 2026: Welcome Fireflies! Back to School

Hello Firefly Families!

Our first week back was a great one full of new routines, new friends and a new school for some of our Fireflies. We watercolored fireflies to decorate our classroom, learned all about the letter L, created a class book after reading the book The Kissing Hand, began writing in our journals with the journal prompt "My favorite thing about school is..." and went on a "Back to School Scavenger Hunt" to learn where things are around the LECC. We read the books The Kissing Hand, The Pigeon HAS to Go to School, We Don't Eat Our Classmates, and Our Class is a Family.

Reminders:

*NO SCHOOL Monday, September 7th: Labor Day!

*Morning Carpool is from 8:40-9:05. Afternoon Carpool is from 3:10-3:30. In the afternoon, please pull over to the 5th Grade Center side to buckle in your child.

*We will be sending home our Show and Tell Bag with a new Firefly every day. Please help them pick out one special toy/picture/item to bring in to show their friends! We will also be sending home our Firefly Kissing Hand book in the Show and Tell bag. Please read this with your child and send it back the next day in the bag. Thanks for your help with this!

*Please NO TIE shoes until your kiddo knows how to tie them independently. We take our shoes on and off throughout the day (to dump sand, rest time, etc) and they get super frustrated when they can't do it by themselves!

*Please make sure your child has a filled water bottle each day! A lot of them get thirsty when we go to the playground first thing in the morning.

*If you know your child does not sleep, feel free to send in a rest time activity--please no iPads/tablets or slime/playdough. Books, puzzles, quiet games, Magnadoodles (or something similar) are all a good choice!
