May 4th - 7th, 2026: Mother's Day & Planting

Hello Firefly Families!

We had a fun week with all of the Fireflies talking about our mommies. We completed an emergent reader book about counting, colors and flowers, made a special gift for our moms by painting pots and planting flowers, made observations of our caterpillars (now chrysalides), responded to the journal prompt, "How does your mommy take care of you?", cut out flowers and sequenced them in order from largest to smallest and went on an ABC hunt around our room to see if we could match the lowercase letters to their capital letter. We read the books Are You My Mother?, Mother's Day Surprise, The Best Mother, and Mother's Day Surprise (Pinkalicious) and practiced learning how to write numbers 3, 4 & 5 in our HWT book. We also had our caterpillars turn into chrysalides! We can't wait to see the butterflies emerge in the next couple weeks. :)

April 27th - May 30th, 2026: Caterpillars and Butterflies!

Hello Firefly Families!

This week we learned all about butterflies and their life cycle! I think everyone's favorite part of the week was for sure our new caterpillar pets. :) We responded to the journal prompt, "On ___ the caterpillar ate (#) _____", practiced a "directed drawing" of a caterpillar and watercolored it, learned about the word SYMMETRY and made symmetrical butterflies, learned about metamorphosis and what stages the butterfly goes through in it's life cycle, and played a caterpillar "roll and cover" game with dice. We worked on numbers 1, 2 & 3 in our HWT book and we read the books Butterflies, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Caterpillar to Butterfly and Caterpillar and the Polliwog

"Butterfly Song" (to the tune of "Up on the Housetop")

First comes a butterfly and lays an egg,

Out comes a caterpillar with many legs.

Oh see the caterpillar spin and spin,

A little chrysalis to sleep in.

Oh, oh, oh! Wait and see.

Oh, oh, oh! Wait and see.

Out of the chrysalis, my oh my!

Out comes a pretty butterfly!
