September 21st - 24th, 2026: Apples! (Week 1)

Happy Friday, Firefly Families!

This week we learned all about apples! We read Apples for Everyone, Ten Apples Up on Top, Apples and Bad Apple. We used our handprints to paint apple trees, water colored apples & leaves for our seasons tree, colored/cut out apples and made signs for our Firefly apple stand, taste tested different colored apples, matched numeral to quantity with apple trees, responded to the journal entry, "How many apples up on top?", made apple patterning crowns, and tried to balance as many "apples" as we could on our popsicle stick apple trees. Our HWT letter of the week was T.

*LECC Pumpkin Patch Field Trip: SAVE THE DATE! Wednesday, October 28th from 9:30-11:30 AM @ Thies Farm in Maryland Heights. Your child will need a chaperone to take them to the farm and stay for the duration of the event. $18.25 in cash due by 10/22 :)

September 14th - 18th, 2026: Color Awareness

Hello Firefly Families!

This week we learned about COLORS! We did a lot of mixing using primary colors and discovered new colors we could make using red, blue and yellow! We also worked on sorting colors, patterning, taking turns during our colorful "Gumball Game" and went on a color scavenger hunt around our room. We read the books Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See?, Little Blue, Little Yellow, Mix It Up!, Mouse Paint and Mixed-A Colorful Story. Our letter of the week was H.

Color Song:

Orange is a carrot

Blue is the sky

Black is a bat and

Red is cherry pie

Reminders:

*Please bring in one apple (or a few if you'd like to help out our apple stand;) on Monday for our 2 week apple unit! Any kind or color will do ;)

*Our afternoon carpool is from 3:10-3:30. If you arrive after 3:25 you will get stuck behind the SSD buses. Feel free to pull over to the 5th grade center (only after the buses pull up) and walk over to grab your child instead of waiting in the long line behind the bus. After 3:30 we are going to start taking kiddos to the office. Thank you for your help with this!

*If you know your child does not rest, feel free to send in a quiet activity for rest time for them to do on their mat (i.e. coloring book, small/quiet toy, etc)
