March 2nd - 5th, 2026: Construction!

Hello Firefly Families!

This week our focus was on CONSTRUCTION!  We made our reading arch into a construction site full of tools and things to build, hammered real nails into foam bricks, created construction vehicles out of different shapes, wrote and responded in our journals, "I built a...", built bridges with tape and popsicle sticks and tested them, and recreated famous landmarks with blocks! We read the books Mighty, Mighty Construction Site, Dazzling Diggers, Shape Up Construction Trucks, All About Construction Workers and Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site. We started a review of our alphabet this week for Handwriting Without Tears, focusing on A, B, C & D.

February 23rd - 26th, 2026: Transportation!

Hello Firefly Families!

This week we focused on transportation and things that GO! We made transportation emergent reader books to practice letter writing, matched pattern blocks in the shape of different vehicles, responded to the journal prompt, "If you could go anywhere, where would you go? How would you get there?", played the "parking lot game" with dice, created name rockets & hot air balloons, and sorted vehicles into different categories of land, sea and sky. Our HWT letter was Z, and we read the books Let's Go For a Drive!, Things That Go!, The Cars and Trucks Book and some Epic (a website) books on transportation. We also watched "How Do Rockets Fly?" and "How Do Hot Air Balloons Work?" from Sci Kids.
